What is SCSI?

Before USB was released, the way components were connected to a computer was through a SCSI. SCSI stands for small computer system interface. Although USB has quickly become the dominant method of connecting components to a computer, SCSI is not obsolete and because of this, there are still pieces that may connect to a computer via a SCSI. While the continuous change takes place making SCSI the lesser used method of connecting components to a computer, it is important to figure out how to connect a SCSI to a USB.

How to Connect SCSI to USB?

Connecting a SCSI to USB isn’t that difficult. It costs a little bit of money, but other than that, to make the connection takes about ten seconds.

The first step in connecting a SCSI to USB is to go out and buy the adapter required to make this connection. This adapter can range in price from $35.00 to $100, but in the end, it all depends on the quality of the adapter.

Since the issue is typically that the computer has a SCSI connector, but the component is a USB, in this case, all the person needs to do is connect the adapter into the SCSI on the computer. Then take the component and connect it to the USB side of the adapter. If it has been connected properly and the connection works, the computer should recognize it and mention that there is a new connection made.

However, if it isn’t working, the issue might be one of three things:

  • An error in the USB side
  • An error in the adapter
  • An error in the computer for the SCSI side

Should I Keep my SCSI?

As the years go on, the SCSI connector is going to become more obsolete. USB is more convenient and therefore, more widely used. The USB increases performance of a component a lot more than the SCSI does. Because of this, more people are switching ships to the USB. All computers these days come with USB and if one doesn’t, it isn’t advised to make the purchase.

In the end, SCSI can still be used with a SCSI to USB connector. It isn’t completely gone, so it can still function properly. If state of the art is the desire, though, using USB is definitely more productive and cost effective than SCSI. In the end, it is a personal choice over whether to choose SCSI or switch to USB.
